Classic Parker House Rolls Smell of Christmas
A generous brushing of butter makes these rolls a bread basket staple. Parker House rolls have a crispy shell on the outside and are buttery and soft on the outside. It’s perfect for soaking up those Christmas roast juices.
BUTTER PARKER HOUSE ROLLS

Total Time: 2 hrs 20 mins
INGREDIENTS
- 1 packet instant yeast
- 1 cup full cream milk
- 3 ounces butter, melted plus, 3 ounces for garnish
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- 1 large egg
- 3 ½ cups flour plus
- ½ cup for dusting
- Sea salt, for garnish
DIRECTIONS
- Heat milk to 110°F and place into large mixing bowl. Add melted butter and egg; whisk together.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, salt, yeast and sugar.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix using clean hands.
- Form the dough into a ball. Knead the ball of dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth. This should take 4 to 5 minutes.
- Transfer to a lightly greased bowl and allow to double in size. This should take about 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Brush a 13-inch by 9-inch baking pan with melted butter.
- Once the dough has doubled in size, punch it down to remove the excess air and divide into 10 equal pieces.
- Form each piece into a ball and place into the greased baking pan. Allow rolls to rest for 30 minutes at room temperature.
- Brush the rolls with more butter.
- Place the rolls into the oven and bake for 20 minutes or, until golden-brown.
- Top with remaining butter and sprinkle with sea salt.
