Make Bacon, Cheddar & Chive Scones This Valentine’s Day

With Valentine’s Day around the corner and on a weekday, we decided to feature recipes that don’t only scream love but that can be made in under an hour! Both of our savoury and sweet recipes are perfect for two, extra-decadent and ready in under an hour!

BACON, CHEDDAR & CHIVE SCONES

These eggless, savoury scones are perfect for a surprise romantic breakfast or as a yummy treat for your loved one. Use heart-shaped cutters if you want to be extra cheesy and loving this Valentine’s Day.

INGREDIENTS
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour 
  • ½ teaspoon salt 
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder 
  • 2 teaspoons sugar 
  • 1 teaspoon ground thyme 
  • 2 teaspoons paprika 
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper 
  • 2 ounces cold butter, cubed 
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • ⅓ cup finely chopped fresh chives  
  • 1 cup cooked, crumbled bacon, optional 
  • ¾ cup to 1 cup heavy cream
DIRECTIONS
  1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk all dry ingredients.
  3. Using a dough cutter, food processor or your hands, work the cubed butter into the dry ingredients until it becomes crumbly.
  4. Then, mix in cheese, chives and bacon.
  5. Add ¾ cup heavy cream; stir to combine. If the dough does not hold together, add cream until it does.
  6. Transfer the dough to a baking sheet with parchment paper or a Silpat and press the dough into a ¾-inch thick circle.
  7. Using a sharp knife, cut the circle into wedges, spreading them apart.
  8. Lastly, brush with heavy cream.
  9. Bake for 22 to 24 mins or, until golden-brown. Serve warm.
