Trinidad’s First Cookie Dough Shop Opens


Sugarholics rejoice, because Trinidad just got its newest, most-instagrammable sweet spot, Dōu: A cookie dough bar that’s everything your childhood dreams were made of.

Raw, buttery, lip-smackingly good dough, doled out by the scoopful and topped with everything from sprinkles to chocolate syrup, chips, and s’mores. No more hiding under tables trying to scavenge dregs from an empty mixing bowl, or getting smacked on the hand for dipping a few too many fingers into batter.

Dōu allows you to unleash inner 5-year-old and indulge all your cookie dough cravings, all for just $30 a scoop.

Nestled in a small row of shops on Picton Street, bookended on one end by Maraval Road’s busy food scene and the famed Italian eatery Buzo on the other, Dōu is a welcome respite to St. Clair’s bustling business district.

Modelled after stores like Unbaked in NYC, Dough T.O. in Toronto, and Edoughable in Los Angeles, Dōu is the latest, local response to the raging cookie dough sensation that has taken the world by storm. A hip brick-and-mortar outpost marked by a distinctive whiteboard wall and a minimalist white and blue interior, Dōu has all the trappings of becoming T&T’s next major dessert sensation.

Dōu soft launched in December, 2017, and is expected to have their official launch in time for the Carnival rush.

Set up like an ice cream parlour, Dōu sells cookie cups ($30, $48 and $60 for 1, 2 and 3 scoops respectively) and waffle cones (for $10 extra) laden with their six standard flavours of cookie dough and endless 2-dollar toppings.

Purists will enjoy their commando dough—a no-fuss master dough made fresh daily with flour, pasteurized, heat-treated eggs (so it’s 100% safe and edible raw), copious amounts of butter and sugar, and a slight hint of vanilla.

Chocolate aficionados, lovers, and die-hard fanatics are spoilt for choice, with three options in varying levels of rich intensity. First up, there’s the classic chocolate chip: naked dough with a sprinkling of Hershey’s semi-sweet chocolate chip. Next, there’s brownie batter, a heady concoction of chocolate chip with a swirl of brownie batter. And finally, there’s chocolate dream, a behemoth blend of chocolate cookie dough, crushed oreos, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and brownie batter in one divine scoop.

Other flavours include confetti (commando with sprinkles, white and dark chocolate chips), and cake batter (french vanilla cake batter swirl and commando with sprinkles, white and dark chocolate chips).

Future flavours, which are rotated out on a monthly basis, include Hot Peppermint Mocha and this month’s feature, S’mores, naked dough mixed in with gooey toasted marshmallows and chocolate chips.

And it gets better. Besides serving scoops in a cup or cone (which can be customized with toppings), Dōu also allows you to top your order with vanilla ice cream, slather it in caramel sauce, chase it with a shot of almond milk, or blend it in a signature milkshake.

It might not be what the doctor ordered, but it sure does dou your heart good.
